Are you brave enough?

January 2016 I attended a Danish event about developing Denmark from welfare to prosperity. Wise people were gathered to share opinions regarding a better Denmark in the Opera house built by a very wise man “Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller”. He is famous for his words “No loss should hit us, which by due diligence could be averted”.

Now the question is; do you lead with due diligence? Do you take the necessary steps to secure a bright future?

To secure a prosperous future we need brave passionate leaders, who dare to experiment, and do things differently. The wise people in the panel discussions could all share stories about leaders being aware of the need for different strategies but didn’t act on it. Why?

I believe we have a tradition for demanding clear answers from our leaders in every situation – also the complex ones. But sometimes situations calls for experiments – not answers! I think we need to change the way we cooperate – we need to change our expectations.

Leaders’ most important job is to visualize the bright future, face challenges and find answers – not having them. The right way of doing business today is not necessarily the right way tomorrow, and it takes courage to dare saying that – especially if the right way has been right the past 20 years, and you don’t have the answer!

Leaders need to share challenges and demand participation and experiments to find the answers. The world are facing huge challenges regarding the environment, increasing population and instability – we can’t rely on business as usual!
